The Day I Met Beau Billingslea

It was Sunday, May 28th. It was the third day for Lubbock-Con at the Civic Center in Lubbock, Tx. This was my 2nd day shooting the panels at the event and I was getting ready for another day, except this day was different. This day, I was going to meet someone that I had known about for at least 17 years and not once did I ever think I'd meet this person. I was waiting for him to show up and I was as calm as I could be. I had met some famous people before so I was trying to treat this like the other situations because I wanted to stay as professional as possible.

After a few moments, he walks in, Beau Billingslea in the flesh. They do his sound check for his mic and he starts singing and talking about random things and the entire time, I couldn't believe that I was in the presence of a man that I've heard and seen on TV for years. I think this was the first time I was actually star struck.

After the panel was over, he was gracious enough to take pictures with the volunteer's and with me as well. Now at this point, I would've said something in the nature of, "What are the odds of me getting into voice acting?". Instead, all I could say was thank you. There's tons of things that I would have loved to talk about with him since he's done things I've always dreamed of doing, but I was too star struck to ask. Maybe one day I will get an answer, but for now, I'm happy just being able to take a picture with him.

A little later on, I ran into him at his booth while I was filming. I had walked up to them and showed them the camera I was using. Little did I know, I was about to capture something amazing. I handed him my camera and he starts reciting a passage from Othello. That was amazing to watch and to be next to him while he was doing that. Click here to see the video!

All in all, it was an amazing day. I got to meet, shake hands with and take a picture someone I've known to be on TV for years. It truly was an honor to be able to do all those things and see everything I saw. Maybe one day i'll cross paths with him again, but until then, thank you for the amazing memories!
