Video Breakdown: Crowder - Come as You Are

First and foremost, don’t think this is Nirvana, the jokes can stop there (sorry guys).

Crowder’s “Come As You Are” is a great song for those that feel like they won’t be accepted into God’s Kingdom. When you think of God’s Kingdom, you think of perfection, and you can easily feel overwhelmed and like you won’t be accepted. Here’s the thing – God didn’t come to deliver the ones who deemed themselves worthy of His kingdom, He came for those of us who seek forgiveness and want to have eternal life. Of course, this world won’t tell you that because we’re so consumed with ourselves and our own understanding in a fast-paced environment that we forget that God sees things differently from us.

That’s what this video highlights – each city shot shows a time-lapse which represents how we live in a fast-paced world that distracts us from what we really desire. While we are in this world, we get so consumed with all its pleasures and fancy things that we don’t take time to take care of ourselves. We would all like the brand new phone or a nice big house, but that won’t satisfy us in the long run. If you say it does, then you really need to think about your priorities. Life isn’t about taking advantage of someone or keeping as much for yourself as your neighbor.

Now if you feel like you’ve done too much bad in this world and like you’re unworthy of being forgiven and destined to roam the world with a heavy unforgiven heart, remember that God came to save us regardless of our past. The chorus and the title explain everything perfectly.

“So lay down your burdens

Lay down your shame

All who are broken lift up your face

Oh wanderer, come home

You’re not too far

So lay down your hurt

Lay down your heart

Come as you are”

This world can take over our souls and keep us further from a relationship with God, which is what the devil wants. He doesn’t want you to have a relationship with God, and he doesn’t want you feel like you can be saved because he wants company in his domain. He wants to remind you that you are not worthy of God’s love and he wants you to argue about stupid things with everyone to keep causing chaos in this world. If you are feeling like this, I’m here to tell you that you are worthy and that you are forgiven for your sins. As Crowder says in his song, “Earth has no sorrow, that Heaven can’t heal.”

Now I’m sure there are those that want to get offended by this blog and are ready with their normal responses of, “God’s not real,” or “If God was real, why does He let bad things happen in this world?” or “I know more about the Bible than you do, so let’s test you and see how much you know.” I’ve been called stupid, a sheep, uninformed, unrealistic, and shameful. Another name won’t hurt me and I’m also not going to argue with people who have a script to follow when it comes to religious replies. Let’s just leave it as you can believe what you want to believe and I’ll do the same, but when you want to have a real conversation without name calling or disrespect, then let’s talk.
